Sounds like you might have conflict relationship, and not sure how to handle it. Respect, comes from both, admiration and fear. It is your choice how you want the individual to view you.
Depending on situation, Fear could also be the answer.
In a Love situation, Fear is not the answer , never. If a person is hounding you constantly, without respecting, your boundary, Man to Man situation, then Fear will come in handy. So choose wisely.

Once I was changing a split-rim wheel and tire on a truck when the driver gave me some advice...
When changing the tire on the rim, respect the reality with which I am dealing. If you respect the split-rim, meaning that if you understand that this is a very dangerous moment and fear can have you forget to respect the dangerous little details where one mistake could cost a limb or life. If you respect it you wont forget the details if you fear it it will get you.

Depends whether you're in it for the long-haul or the short run, 'cause fear comes in handy for the latter since respect takes time (and lotsa effort) to build and earn.
Being of Machiavellian bent, I'm instinctively inclined towards the use of instilling fear to achieve urgent, necessary ends. But pragmatically speaking, inculcating a culture of mutual respect is more durable and of far greater value, simply because of the virtuous circle it creates.
That's what separates visionary leaders from two-bit tyrants.

respect; many emotions lead to fear; sadness, anger, jelousy. (there not exactly the best) but respect is a whole different unit. people respect one another for things they have done (and i aint talking about what they have done with girls:P, thats just gay respect) but respect is a starting feeling it leads to friendship, trust, even idolism(i dont know if thats a word) but yeah. basicly what i am saying is true respect is definatley better than fear.

Respect.
People who fear you will hate you for it, and if they become stronger than you they will turn against you.
But those who respect you will be glad to work with you if they ever dominate you.

Respect. I usually will harm something I fear, before it harms me.
