Okay, this is not that hard. I am 23 years old and have been caroling every year since I was 2. You will be walking on the sidewalks in a crowded city, or on the street if you are in the country. When you get up to a house, you will walk up the path and up the stairs, right to the front door. Then, you will ring the doorbell and wait. When the person comes out of the house, you will start singing songs like Joy to the World, Deck the Halls, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Even if the person doesn't come out of the house, you will probably sing anyway. Good Luck and God Bless.

If you're with a charity of some sort, the organiser ought to know the procedure. There are quite strict regulations for people trying to raise money from carol singing.

If you're just going out carolling with friends, and not raising money, then I guess you find any suitable spot outside a group of houses and start singing.

Generally you map out a route you're going to take. If you're carolling for a charity make sure you have something official that signifies you have that charity's sanction for you to sing on their behalf.

You can go and sing in front of people's houses but don't expect them to necessarily give you anything.

You probably will need a city or town permit if you try to do it downtown or at a mall.

It's nice though to see the tradition of carolling continue.

You just go up to the door and knock on it. When they open your group should be about 4 feet away from them. Sing, then you could give them a candy cane or somethign cheap (cookies, etc)
Merry Christmas!!!
