If you are talking by a college placement test then yes most place you where you test. What school are you attending? Have you looked in the college catalog at the course descriptions? Usually there it will tell you what course you need to have in order to take whatever course you want and sometimes it will tell you to go about getting an override. Example: at my school it will say “student needs a C or higher in XXX or a score of XXX on the placement test or permission from the dean or program director”. You would really need to look at that to know.

Every university has a different numbering system -- so I have no idea what the levels of these classes are. Therefore, it is hard to give good advice.

However, most universities only require you to take a placement test for the first math class that you take. If you passed Math 1141, you should be able to go into any class that uses that as a prerequisite. Generally, you do not go down in difficulty -- moving from a 1xxx level course to a 0xxx level course.

You should talk to your advisor or someone in the Math department about the appropriate next step.
