I took three classes this semester. I got two A's and one F! The F was shocking considering I got a 98% on the Mid-Term. The professor based the final grade on the mid-term, a semester paper, and final. He never gave the class back our papers so I don't know what I got on it, though I thought I did well on it. In regards to the final I don't think I did as well as the mid-term but there is no way I could have gotten an F. I know every university is different but do you guys have any suggestions on going about disputing this grade? I have already emailed the professor but he will be gone for winter break. I had a 3.5 GPA and now it's a 3.1!! Also, the professor said, offhandedly, that if people did bad on the midterm he may just base the grade on the final. Can't I argue to have him base my grade on the midterm if I really did that bad on the final (final not cumulative)? I will wait it out and repeal but any words of advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Most university's have a procedure for appealing or investigating a grade. Mind you, even if you begin the process, the grade is not going to go away immediately. You will have to stay on top of those who must take care of this. You might wait for spring semester to begin as you probably won't get anywhere at this point. HOWEVER, you should still put a call in to the dean of that particular department so that they know a problem exists. The longer you wait, imho, the harder it will be to get anyone to respond. They will reply "Well why didn't you address this immediately?"

The professor should have CLEARLY laid out his grading scale/policy in the syllabus. Have a copy of that on hand to refer to. Fill in all of the parts that you have received back (ie, the midterm, any other graded assignments which you rec'd back this semester).

Lastly, there is always the possibility of a computer error. Call the records/registration department and ask them to investigate it. Computers and entry personnel are not error proof. Perhaps the profressor errantly gave you someone else's grade ...

Good luck!

At the college level, get the syllabus it is a binding agreement between the instructor and you. Make sure you have that. Second email him as you did, check the syllabus and see if it has his home number on it. If you do not get a hold of him keep record of everything it will help your case. Third talk to the dept head or the dean of the college for an appeal of the grade. I advise to get your transcript of your other grades all of your papers and maybe two letters or recommendations from other professors. I am a grad student earning a doctorate and I had a student appeal a grade and he did all of this he went from an F to an B. The reason I gave him an F was because he skipped my final with no excuse. I found out three months later he was a bad accident. I felt bad I could not change the grade without going through this process.

Good Luck it may take a while to get it change do not give up.

definite, there are suggestion on a thank you to dispute grades. it fairly is extra durable to while it includes papers, because of the fact it is so subjective. in case you experience which you accompanied each and all the policies for the paper, and you had ideal grammar and form, then you definately can attempt to petition for a distinctive grade. First, ask the professor what he/she feels replaced into incorrect with it. each and every so often a professor will enable a rewrite and with feedback, you're able to desire to do extra effectual without an allure of the grade. If the professor would not enable a rewrite, then ask a chum who you comprehend to be a robust author to examine it and supply their honest opinion. in the event that they agree which you're able to desire to are becoming a extra effectual grade, then pass to the dep. chairperson. they are going to settle on whether or to no longer pay attention your allure. in the event that they do, they could settle directly to override the grade or no longer. If no longer, you may allure to the Dean of the college of your college. it fairly is a complicated technique to allure to the Dean, so which you're able to desire to be advantageous that your paper merits a plenty bigger grade and that bigger grade might make a extensive distinction on your very final grade. you may question the judgments of professors, yet you're able to desire to make certain which you're precise, or you will run into complications. you do no longer need to make enemies with this professor considering the fact which you will could desire to take a form with this guy or woman later.
