The Twelve Days of Christmas are the twelve days between Christmas (December 25) and Epiphany (January 6). Epiphany is when the Wise Men arrived bearing the gifts for the Christ child. People who belong to the Orthodox churches (Russian, East, and Greek) and some older style European Catholic churches celebrate their big Christmas holiday on January 6th. Usually it is called Orthodox Christmas (at least in my geographic area) instead of Epiphany. That is when they exchange gifts and have a feast. When my mother was a child, they celebrated on Epiphany and Christmas was a day of church services, fasting, and prayer.
