I am having my 3rd baby and I have been having a lot of contractions. They are irregular but still painful. Sometimes I will get them every 3-4 minutes for a couple of hours then they stop. I've been having a lot of lower back pain and a lot of pelvic pressure. I've made several trips to the hospital and have been sent home. I am 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced. Does it sound like I will go early or is my body just torturing me?? Thanks

This happens to a lot of women. Some go early, some go late. There is no predicting.

When you start having these episodes of contractions, it may be caused by even the slightest dehydration, so when it happens, try lying down on your left side to improve circulation to the uterus, and drink a big glass or two of water. Most of the time, contractions will slow or stop. If they keep coming, you might finally be going into "real" labor.

But always call your doctor if you aren't sure. I always recommend calling your doctor first before making trips to the hospital, often they can tell by talking to you on the phone if you need to go in to be checked or not. It might save you another false alarm run. Doc's offices always have after-hours answering services that will take your call anytime, day or night, weekends, holidays, etc.

Good luck!

I STAYED in labor for the last 2 1/2 months of my first pregnancy. I had contractions every single day and when they would get unusually painful and regular I would head to the hospital. They would monitor the contractions and then after a few hours the contractions would stop and they would send me home. I was admitted into the hospital 18 times. They eventually put me on Breathine to stop the contractions but it didn't work.

When I hit 38 1/2 weeks the doctor broke my water and said "You aren't going home this time." It took only 4 1/2 hours to deliver...which is only fair since I had been in labor for almost 3 months!

It sounds like your body is torturing you unfortunately...but based on how your doctor sees it he may do as my doctor did and let you go a few days early. Good luck, sweetie! And congrats on the 3rd baby!

I had to pace my bedroom floor for a few weeks every night with regular painful contractions that would end after 2-3 hours.

I labored 43 1/2 hours after my water broke, if it hadnt broke they would have sent me home because I didnt progress at all until 37 hours and then I flew right into delivery within 20 minutes.

I'd say its just your body being a pain.

name your dr and inform them what's going on, they're going to quite often assess you, so they may be able to get an inspiration of if you're dialating or now not. insist on being seeen on the grounds that 36 weeks remains to be a bit of too early.
