These simple minded people believe being in a gang means you are tough and courageous. That's freaking ignorant. As long as you stand up for yourself when threatened and go about your business then everything is straight. You don't have to be an unwashed barbarian to gain respect.
Plus a lot of the real hardcore gangstas here in SoCal usually all end up removing their tattoos and looking for honorable jobs anyway..

Around the 1950's was when we the rise of women's liberation.
Many women and mothers got caught in this movement. Even gays were in these women's movement.
Which one did which is still a theory, but the whole idea of home management was left at the wayside.
Men are supposed to provide, in order that the women can manage.
Men provided and that is where it stops. They forgot that they too were now assistant managers, and both are now promoted as care takers. This to is another problem, for example: chores around the home.
Like making the bed the first thing when one wakes up, etc.
Men and women now a days are not educated enough to understand. Technology has taken the chivalry out of every man and most women. Men and women who were once a lady and a gentleman.
God how I wish they made people like they did yesterday.
Just pray and thank the lord that you came from a good home, or at least you had a proper moral education.
Stay away from unruly and bad people, their influence is catching and addictive. Some times you realize to late, and will have to laser out the tattoos. Scarring you for life and a reminder of the bad as to your doing good. Be bless that evil did not come and sweep you off your feet.
Bickering between spouses is common, because good and bad are the ways of the world.

i grew up in SoCal
the answer to your question is that fools tend to rush in where even an angel would fear to tread
yes stand up for your self but don't judge other or u will make it harder on your self just be straight and it'll all be good
i remember when compton was like a war zone with all the cribs all boarded up and booming from the bass comeing out it was really scarey but if u showed your self strong with no affiliations they left u alone. here's some love come'en at u

I agree that many many people act stupidly thinking they're being courageous. But I also think that there are times when people are acting courageous when trying to act stupid? Haha.
But uhhh, yeah, especially with teenagers and young-20s... ignorance is very common, especially it seems, with gangs and whatnot. I live in the suburbs and I see highschoolers walkin around acting like we live in the ghetto - starting and joining gangs, reppin' their bandana colors, robbing some people, etc.

you have to look at it not from an outsiders point of view but from what they have to do to "survive". not to defend them because i think it's rediculous as well, but a lot of times joining a gang is how they can walk down the street in theie neighborhood without getting jumped. it really is a vicious circle. in many cases their parents are hard working illegal immagrants trying to make a difference for their family, but have no rights and get paid very little. therefore the poverty is there. and let's face it, poverty limits options. you can be as idealistic as you like, but it's true. then since their parents are busy working 3 shifts each, there is no one to supervise them or teach them values of self respect and respecting others. so they join gangs which usually coerce them into joining saying oh we'll do you this favor but you have to be one of us.
it's just terrible.

For exactly as you say. It is BECAUSE they are not thinking, that they confuse the issue. And because they are not thinking, they will never understand as you and I do, that they are doing something which literally makes NO sense. The thing is, I am likely to be killed by one of these simpletons, just for spite because I "dissed" him in some manner... or the $10 in my wallet... And I wonder, if I am killed, what exactly does that PROVE???

many ppl like to act like they are stupid but they are really smart and they are dumb for acting like not being smart and ppl know that those ppl are really smart.
