If you live where there is the potential that it will freeze, fill the base with at least 2 gallons of the pink anti-freeze that is used in fresh water systems in RVs. Then top it off with water.

Eventually you will want to get rid of it - trust me. Getting the sand out will difficult.

The pink anti-freeze won't do any damage when you drain it out. Nothing will evaporate out.

Definitely water. I've had one for more than 2 years now and as long as the plug stays firmly in place the water won't evaporate. Plus if you ever move and want to take it with you it will be easier to empty.

Id choose sand..if there is any kind of room for water to evaporate it will, and who knows it could erode the plastic.

The sand won't evaporate.

Put the sand in it, it will be fine, just be careful about playing on the base of the hoop.

Sand would probably be better.

I'd use water, lots easier to drain if I need to move it.
