I totally agree with you there are far too many immigrants in the UK. i live in scotland and there werent that much immigrats where i stay but recently there has been loads more. i think only the people who are actually going to work should be allowed to stay here instead of letting anyone move here and go on the dole!!!
when i travelled down to london on the train the only people i seen working at the stations were immigrants which made me really angry! and yes you can say im racist and all the piss if you want, just because i have an opinion doenst mean im racist ! so dont even leave a comment about me being racist cause im just not interested in what you have to say ok.
and another thing some one just said immigrants are not the people who cause crime .......what a load o crap, everytime i listen to the news and someone has been stabbed, bombings ect who done it????........yes the person who done it is an immigrant.
IM NOT RACIST IM JUST STATING A FACT

Well your question is silly! Who employs these bad immigrants? What housing do think these bad immigrants receive? British small businesses employ the vast majority of low pay work for these immigrant workers. They often reside in poor quality housing, bad landlords etc.
They are mostly the jobs we would not consider, very low pay and long hours.
Where you are getting the information from on the crime issue. You really should provide evidence without making such stupid typical not factual statements.

We have been very welcoming and positive about people coming into Britain, but as someone else mentioned previously, we are running out of space, not just in the housing sector, but at schools, doctors surgeries & hospitals. With the best will in the world, it will have to stop at some point. I love the diversity of our community. We have people from all over the world here, although Norfolk isn't packed with foregin persons yet, it will happen. I believe that generally, crime is where poverty is. It doesn't matter where you come from. Jobs? Well, lots of people coming in, are doing the jobs which British persons dont want to do. I think that speaks for itself. I was born and bred in England. My problem is, that people coming in expect us to change our traditions and way of life to suit their cultural needs and cause a fuss if we want things to stay the same. With the greatest respect, we need to try to get along and respect each other's views without destroying any good relations we have.

i think immigration has become a huge problem in this country. it seems we let anyone and everyone into this country regardless of anything. Im not racist and i understand that they come here to have a better life, but when i work the hours i do to pay for them to live in quite a decent place and buy things that i would like for myself it annoys me.
i live in thanet which is in the very south east of england (near dover) which is where the immigrants come into england. most of the council housing round here is full of immigrants and i cant go out in cliftonville (not that i would want to) without seeing a foreign person. its even been renamed kosoville coz of so many kosovans! id just like england to become more of an "english country" again.

I will answer the headline only.
The UK should be closed to immigration for lack of space and money.
Our health care system is so over-stretched that it cannot provide a reasonable standard of care to people who really need it. When a former colleague of mine, a hard-working taxpayer, had to suffer in terrible pain for over a year waiting for a heart op; when I hear about people who have to wait for cancer treatment until it won't do them any good, or die on a trolley due to a lack of beds, that is scandallous.
When I read about school closures and teachers leaving the profession because they cannot cope with overcrowded classrooms and lack of money for text books, then I read the next day how xx millions of pounds are being spent instead to teach the children of immigrants English, then I despair.
When there is such a desparate shortage of housing in this country that some young married couples must live with relatives and more have to wait to start a family because they can't afford to move to suitable accommodation, but thousands of "asylum seekers" with no good reason to be here get housed immediately, that to me seems so unfair.
Let's be honest with ourselves. Most immigrants come to the UK to work. There are either no jobs back home or the jobs don't pay as well. Really, that is something their governments need to deal with, and they will never address their socio-economic problems if we continue to let everybody come and live here. Our common goal should be that everybody everywhere has a chance to live and work and prosper; to reduce poverty organically.
I think it is right that the UK contributes so much to foreign aid and poverty reduction. But its immigration policy must change or it will soon not be able to afford to contribute to foreign aid because it will have spent all its money giving medical treatment to South Africans who don't like the ANC, teaching kids of indigent Poles how to speak English and giving council flats to Iraqis, Brazilians and Somalis.
Australia has an immigration policy which is non-discriminatory but which takes into consideration the country's limited resources - and Australia has ten times the land mass of the UK and far fewer people to begin with.
The French put their foots down in 2004, stating that immigration from Eastern Europe must be limited or else the country would be overrun with low-skilled or no-skilled young people competing with French workers for precious jobs and public resources, and they were right. The British government said, "Oh, don't worry, only a few thousand will come". And of course that ended up being a few hundred thousand - even as many as a couple of million.
And before anybody spouts some crap about how these workers are just doing the jobs no British person will do, I know British plasterers, carpenters and waiters who would disagree. And for those who want to tell us how much these people contribute to the British economy - I know for a fact that better than half of these immigrants pay no tax at all, and neither do their employers pay employer taxes for them. They pay them so badly the people can't afford to live and therefore have to rely on social services for housing, etc.

If the Spanish , Greek & Turkish authorities stopped British Nationals from entering their borders , your fortnight holidays in the sun would be fekked. Some , not all , British boozed-up holiday makers make a complete fool of themselves whilst 'abroad', committing crimes and have no idea how they will be treated in clink. As they say - the world is a smaller place now , people from all over the globe travel to find work in other countries. You have a "Fortress UK" attitude , your OK if you are British but no c.u.n.t else. You explain that you are not racist - why bring this question up?

I can think of at least three reasons for such restrictions
(jobs being taken, land & company ownership being taken, crime), and several against (it can bring efficiency, investment, know-how, love) but am still not sure I understand the pros & cons enough to decide on a simplistic conclusion.

Maybe if some of indigenous population got of the dole and took the jobs that no-one but the immigrants will do, the jobs wouldn't be there to take. Also there is plenty of crime committed by UK citizens.

No because immigrants (both legal and illegal) create a budget surplus of £2.5 billion. This means they cover the cost of processing, housing and any benefits they receive AND add an extra £2.5 billion!
It's like the smoker myth- people say they cost the NHS but they create an £8.5 billion surplus so if everyone stopped smoking we would be up the creek without a paddle!!!
