Yes, and that is part of the reason I don't celebrate it anymore. I celebrate Hanukkah now, and there is so much less pressure. My Hanukkah celebrations are over and still the masses scurry around searching out that one last gift for some unexpected guest.
It is so peaceful to NOT celebrate Christmas. * no this does not mean that I am a scrooge, it means I hate the commercialism of the holiday and the guilt and family tortures associated with it. I spend time with my core family during Hanukkah. We play games and gifts are only a small part of it. Family time is what is most important. People don't give each other gifts in my house for Hanukkah. The "host" or parents will give a gift each night to whoever comes over. There is no pressure to reciprocate. ( I actually discourage it)
It takes so much stress out of the holiday season to just be able to enjoy time with those you choose to be with and not have to worry about who gets who what.

From October onwards it creeps up on us, until we are all bombarded and overtaken by it whether we like it or not, and then all of a sudden usually on Boxing day it's gone and we are left with the sale adverts on the tele. I don't like having Christmas rammed down my throat, and obviously this is the advertisers dream time of year. The shops all want your money and the card manufacturers rub their hands together.
I feel that it is an encroachment on me and my personal time because I have to make sure of this and make sure of that, and generally live in fear during the run-up that I have everything planned and ready for when it arrives.
I don't want to opt out, because I love the magic of it for the children and I love the idea of it being about goodwill and so on, but I do think we are put under so much pressure to get everything perfect.
When I was a child I used to think that Christmas and Boxing days were two extra days of the year, and since I find they are ordinary days of the week I don't really regard them as so special.
Throughout the year we eat and drink all we need, so taking part in a big festive eating frenzy doesn't appeal either.
I always go through the motions and do what is expected of me, but It brings me no joy or thrill I am afraid. I like to give presents to people, but I do that for no reason throughout the year as well and prefer to give when it is not expected or taken for granted that this is what we must do.

YES!!! I would rather be at school than celebrate Christmas. I hate staying home with my family, I hate all the people that come to our home, and I had to borrow a bunchload of fiction from the library to get through it; depresses the hell out of me. I used to celebrate Christams in the U.S. but then I got depressed each year. So now I became atheist and regularly go to the library until it closes. Christmas Sucks, New Years does too!!!

I can understand why people hate Christmas but it could be due to the hijack of the true meaning of Christmas by the Corporate Demons looking to profit.
Christ Mass is suppose to be a day to celebrate the birth of the savior of the world and to be with the family and friends you love.
I'm sorry that you hate Christmas so. Just focus on the true meaning of Christmas and share your love to your love ones.
PS: Nobody is denying the fact that Christmas has pagan traditions imbed. The selection of Christmas day was to make the pagan conversion easier. Christmas is a festival to celebrate Jesus's birth not that it's his actual birth date. So, that should not be the reason to not celebrate Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

You sound just like my husband Scrooge. He had a poor childhood so Christmas was never a really happy time for him. We found the solution by letting him only do the things that he enjoyed about the holiday. He loves to bake the Christmas cookies and drive around to see the christmas lights. Other than than I do the rest and he gets to sit back and relax. Its been working for years and now the holiday is much less stressful for him.

The stress, tension, and commercialism of Christmas really ruins it for many. Buy this, buy that or someone gets upset it's not the gifted they wanted. Well next year I'm giving out little books with what Christmas is suppose to be about and leaving it at that.

Christmas has become such a "material things"-centered occasion, which really doesn't do much to make us feel very good (not deep within). Since it is supposed to be a Jesus' birthday remembrance, perhaps a brief study of his life might bring you a warm loving feeling instead.
I have felt like you mentioned, but that feeling usually came because I was being selfish in some way.

You don't. Why don't you celebrate the pagan festival Winterval or Winfest on the 21st Dec (winter solstice) and leave Christmas on the 25th Dec to the Christians who believe in the coming of the Messiah, Jesus the Nazarene, Son of God. It's time we stop secularizing Christmas.

My husband has no problems with the religious aspect of it, but her hates the greedy part of it. His family is very greedy, gluttenous and gimmee during this season (most of the year really) and down right rude. Next year he wants to just do charitable things instead of giving even more stuff to spoiled ungrateful brats. We will still get the children something though. I fully support him in this and my family would think that it was a really cool thing to do. His family though will throw the biggest temper tantrum and ruin Christmas for us like they did last year over something stupid. So given his past case history, he won't stand up to them and do it.
It would be fun to watch their reactions though....from a safe distance. :)
