Airlines constantly change their fares in the face of market forces, and sometimes these changes happen at midnight . . . but sometimes they happen in the middle of the day, or at 9 a.m., etc. In short, pricing is volatile, so you can't rely on a particular time window in terms of getting the best results.

I strongly recommend that you go to Kayak.com. They will index literally dozens of sites for your -- Expedia, Travelocity, CheapoAir, BookingBuddy, etc.; but also the airlines own sites (e.g. continental.com), thereby ensuring that you have the lowest possible fare. Moreoever, they will send you email alerts if the fare drops for a route you've selected.

I'd advise you not to wait in making your purchase. I've done many a last-minute travel purchase; and almost without exception, the closer you get to your travel date, the higher the price of the ticket.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the best time was a long time ago. Most of the lowest fares require that you purchase tickets at least 14 days in advance. Also, the week between Christmas and New Year's Day is one of the most heavily traveled weeks of the year. Discounts often sell out months in advance. I wish you luck.

No, the airlines don't normally run deals at midnight. The purpose of reducing prices is to fill seats. Why would you drop the price to stimulate demand at a time when most people won't be booking seats? Airlines change fares based on demand. I worked in the travel industry for 20 years and regularly saw fares go up and down throughout the day.

immediatley and you will pay more.
the midnight trick is when you buy on line, if there is like one or two seats left the air line will drop the price to fill the plan.
It works 35 percent of the time. this time of year do not count on it as all the flights were booked months ago.

It worked for me twice and I do fly a lot, more than most people. ave 8 a year.

but try always

When you say "only 7 days left", if that means you want to go for New Years, book it now, don't wait, New Years is the most crowded day in Vegas. Your going to be lucky to even find a flight on this short notice & it won't be cheap. Good Luck.

Try a website like lastminutetravel.com. I also read that rates are higher when searching for flights over the weekend including Monday. Tuesday & Wednesday searching will give you the best prices. I went to Vegas in October and found this to be true.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays at midnight or just after are the best times to get online deals. I usually look at Travelocity and then whatever airline is offering the best deal there, I go to their site and look up the same dates to avoid paying Travelocity a service charge.....

It might be worth a try but this is a busy time of year and some filghts are actually over booked. You might be lucky with sites like Priceline.com or Travelocity
