This sounds an awful lot like recent scams that have made the rounds here recently. You may wish to use the "Search for questions" box above and do a search for "Sun Oil & Gas UK" or "Dexxon Oil UK". In both cases, they were sending out job offers with large salaries, and demanding a large up-front fee for "Visa and work permit processing" (They were asking 1200 pounds in at least one case). Obviously, any visa would have to be obtained in your home country, which I will bet isn't the UK, so you can rest assured that any such demand is definitely a scam to be avoided.
In the cases of Sun Oil and Dexxon, they even had phony company web sites set up. For Dexxon, the web site was set up only a month before the fraudulent job offers started coming out.
