Legally, they are an adult. Mentally, most are still just kids.

I consider 18-year-olds adults by legal definitions, but teenagers by every other one. At 18, you're at the top of the teenage phase but there is still soooooo much to learn. The growth you go through between ages 18 and 25 is just amazing. So although 18-year-olds are technically adults, I don't consider most of them to have the maturity level that adults have (although there are definitely some exceptions!)

Legally an adult. But still not old enough to buy alcohol. I would say 18 is stuck in between a teenager and an adult.

There are a few good answers so far, IMO.
Yes, the law generally considers them to be adults. I find that many people around 18-24 think that they know everything, and no one can tell them otherwise. I know, I was one of those people who couldn't be told anything during those years.
Now that I am in my thirties, I look back and realize how little I really knew about life at that time. I guess its just part of growing up for a lot of us.
I remember years ago, a much older relative used to say that "Youth is wasted on the young." I never quite understood what he meant. Now, I understand completely. And I totally agree.
Just my opinion.

I would say a teenager. Just because most people are still in high school when they turn 18 and haven't had a chance to live in the real world yet. I look back and I thought I was so grown up when I was 18, but I didn't know anything.

When I was 18 I would say I was adult even if I acted like child. I'm 20 now and never will change lol

My girlfriend will be treated like child until she is 30 by her family lol

I think 18 is a adult and should be allowed there independence

I would not consider most 18 year olds adults. Emotional maturity and being able to live independently and support themselves are big factors.
I didn't consider myself an adult for several years after turning 18.
Sociologists have been using "emerging adult" for the 18-25 age range.

I consider it adult,
if you can drive, work , and are out of school ( or almost)
why not you can basically control your life so you shouldnt be considered a teen.
Also, i dont know about where your from but from where I'm from you can make the decision to change your whole life in high school and choose to dropout, and if you can make that big of a decision then why shouldnt you be considered an adult at 18.

Don't worry you are still a teenager.. when a person is 18-20 it's the last stage of teenage hood... so chill and enjoy life to the maximum so long as you can.....

Generally a teenager, but depending on how mature they are, maybe a young adult
Just because the law says your an adult doesn't necessarily make you one.
