Actually, this child, because he is being styled as the son of an Earl rather than a royal prince will most likely not take on royal duties of any kind. Therefore the taxpayers are not at all responsible for his living.
This movement is a purposeful one in that the royal family is trying to downsize the number of high ranking titles. Prince Andrew though, vehemently disagrees thus his daughters were given the style HRH and titled Princess rather than the daughters of a Duke.

No,you don't see. Edward and Sophie are not on the Civil List so the Queen pays for their upkeep ; they work for the Queen, since leaving their jobs by her request. They carry out engagements for the monarchy as well as work for organizations and charities for youth, entertainment and sports, particularly The Duke of Edinburgh's Awards Programme,a youth-oriented concern. They are on
The Queen's payroll, not yours.Changes to the Civil List were made in 1993.Only The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are on the list, which monies not only pay the Queen, but all of her Palace Office workers as well.

Edward and Sophie are not on the "Civil List", ie they do not receive any money from the taxpayer. They both have jobs, are self-supporting, and put in a lot of time doing royal duties because it is their duty to do so. What is your gripe - a nice married couple have had a healthy baby Good luck to them. Your snide insinuation in the last part of your question is typical of people who read trashy magazines and have no ability to think for themselves. Shame on you.

Every child is a "gift", a much wanted child is a miracle, especially at Sophie's age, They seem happy enough, we pay them nothing as they are not on the Civil List and have to work. The Queen seems very fond of Sophie which says a lot as she is a hard woman to please. Live and let live I say.... I am not a "royalist" but prefer what we have to a republic. At the end of the day they do not meddle in my life so why meddle in theirs? Plus they bring a lot of money into this country. Just as you did not ask to be who you are, they did not ask to be royal, they just are.

That is not a nice comment to make about the Royal family, I do believe that both Edward & Sophie work for a living, and the Royal family are still a magnet for tourists every year!
I am pleased for them.

Imagine how many tourists would come to Britain if it wasn't for the royal family and the birth of a baby is a happy event.
So Happy Christmas to you.
