Sugar-free candy or candy that is easy for those with dentures to chew, fruit, nuts, maybe a small magnetic decoration if they have something magnetic in their rooms, small picture frames that they could put pictures of their grandchildren in, handkercheifs, manicure sets, comb and brush sets, socks, pins/brooches, inexpensive nice-looking jewelry, cologne/perfume, books, puzzles, deck of cards, Bingo game, board games (simple ones that they could play with roomates), coloring books (some elderly love to do this, especially if they have grandkids that visit), crayons, CD's, nice fleece blanket for their bed or just to cozy up with for afternoon naps, window clings for their room.

Hope that I've helped.

great question ...

I was about to write things like sweets and chocolates BUT then I remembered that many elderly people may be suffering from Diabetes and other complaints that mean that they have to watch their diets......

SO i might change my suggestion to .. nice hankerchiefs and perhaps talcum powder or nice smelling soaps ...perhaps lavendar bags for the ladies and spice bags for the men to place in their drawers ?

Hope that helps .. and what a wonderful gesture you are doing,
