It's funny how this exactly same post appears in other forums:

To answer the question. I had the Boneville that had similar issue. Under the glove compartment there is a fuel relay that went bad. I changed it and it fixed the problem. The cars are similar so it's worth exploring.
Cheers

Possibly correct but a more probable answer would be the ECM and/or the fuel cranking confirmation circuit maintaining the fuel pump relay in an on position is defective.
Have the mechanic explain to you WHERE the fuel pump relay is under the hood on your car and how to jumper the fuel pump circuit directly from the battery circuit. There is ALSO a fuel pump electrical overide circuit located on the computer diagnostic plug under the steering coloum.
A simple jumper made of a paper clip can be made to "SEE" if the fuel pump and its' electrical circuit are operational. If they ARE operational the car will start and run with the jumper in place (be sure to disconectd it when yo turn the ignition switch off) and you can then look forward to finding out WHY the ECM and or the wiring will not support the fuel pump relay.
BTW, YOU DO have fuel in the tank right?

Pull the vacuum hose off the fuel pressure regulator and look to see if it's wet with gas. They go bad all the time. Does the car start with the throttle halfway open? If not then the fuel pump or resistor pack is bad. It's easy for a mechanic to check fuel pressure.
When my 1998 GTP fuel pump died at 130,000 miles I was told I would have to drop the gas tank to install the new pump. I checked for an inspection cover just to make sure because it died in my driveway, not at the shop and I didn't have a lift at home. I got lucky, there is an access cover under the trunk carpet close to the rear seat. Take the trunk carpet out, you'll see it. Only a 1 hour job!

This sounds like a fuel pump problem.....the pump is not getting gas to the engine and into the fuel injectors......another thing is have you had the fuel filter changed in a while....those little buggers get plugged up over time and no gas will get through.....
happened to my daughter's Grand Am recently.
Also put 2 bottles of "Heet" gas line anti freeze into the tank.....possibly you have water in the fuel......

your first problem was buying a pontiac. your second problem was keeping it 8 years. your 3rd problem is not finding a closer mechanic. your fourth problem is not having better car insurance that will tow your vehicle
