YES!!!! I don't even bother sending them anymore.
All they ever say is 'To (blah), Merry Christmas, from (blah)'
Great.

No. They give pleasure and if they have something to do with the real Christmas and not just a lot of old robins then they do have meaning. I never send any out of social politeness. I have only sent one this year and will recycle the ones I get. At my age it is a way of knowing people are still alive !
Happy Christmas Everyone.

Not a bad question despite what the above has said.
Its certainly becoming a costly habit, There is the option of donating the money you'd otherwise spend to charity as I do.
My cards this year have numbered 4. Mum & Dad, Partner, 2 Kids.

Most of them. I've been making my own Christmas cards for four years now, because, if you're going to send Christmas cards, then they should be about Christmas, not robins, snow decked Churches, Victorian carol singers, Father Christmas or, if you're lucky, the odd angel.
I send Christmas cards to people of other religions and they are not offended, they send me New Year cards. Because I make my own cards, I can adjust the greeting. So if I send them to non-Christians, I simply write 'Happy holiday.'
Looking round a local department store a couple of days ago, I didn't see a single card depicting the story of Jesus.

90% of them yes.
The idea is to communicate your blessings, so if you walk up to someone, say "Happy Xmas" and hand them a card saying the same thing it seems pretty pointless and a waste of time.
If you send a distant relitive/friend a card with a note saying how you are I guess that has a point.
Personnally I don't write any, leave that to the wife, and if she didn't bother then I still wouldn't.

I agree with joe!!!
They bring joy to many people ,i see my mum most days but she still loves to get a card from me and her grandchildren,so not just for those you wont be seeing either!!!
you dont have to spend alot of money and there are loads of places now you can take them to to be recycled after christmas.

It is a harmless custom that gives pleasure to many, pleasing someone is not pointless, so I say Christmas cards are not pointless.
Happy Christmas to all, and the thumb downers.

yes and no ....
I like to send cards to people who I know I will not be seeing over the holiday period .. BUT ... sending cards to people I will be seeing seems like a waste of time and resources.
I have Christmas cards that were sent to my grandparents back in the 1960's .. It's kind of interesting to have those .. helps with researching the family tree ...

Hi Doofy!=)
No I think they serve a purpose as does other intended Holiday items and ideas...I personally like the idea of Christmas spirit and wish everyone could feel it all year long....but to each their own of course..=)

Sometimes, I like to send them and receive them, but I feel bad about the cost to the enviroment so I always recycle them and if I haven't used all of them this year I will use them the next.
It's just a little token to make you feel happy, and to show that they (kind of) care about you!
