try this: start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore( follow instructions in the system restore)

You dont need to do a system restore.
Just reinstall the sound driver as others stated....go getit at ur pc manufacturer's website....usually in their support section, drivers.
Thats all it needs.

Install all the software for your sound system fresh.
Should be on the CD the soundcard (or motherboard if onboard) came with.
