Call up and say look I had my car fixed with you guys last week and I paid alot of money and I think that its pretty crap for my car to have broken down already.
Just tell them how it is and most likely they will have a 2nd look over it for free and if they dont help you out call consumer affairs to see what your rights are.

If you were driving it for the week before it died, its not the mechanics fault. An engine with no coolant would not even last close to a week. We're talking measured in minutes, not days. It is possible that the service the mechanic did knocked loose some junk in your engine, possibly causing a leak somewhere in your cooling system, but that still not something you can sue him over. Unless you have obvious definitive proof that something he did caused your engine to croak, then its not his fault. It is an unfortunate happening, that probably would have occured anyway, without having the full service done on your car.
Approach your mechanic like this: Ask him what he did, tell him what happened and see what he says. If you go in screaming like a lunatic, you can forget about any compassion he might have for you. Hope this helps.

You didn't notice the overheating? You didn't notice the change in sound of the engine? You didn't notice the steam? You didn't notice the pools of antifreeze under the car?
I find that hard to believe. Do you never look at your dash to see what the gauges say, or to see if any warning lights are on? If the car died because of overheating, it was totally avoidable

If it was a proper garrage e.g. vw, mini, pugeot? then have a talk and prove it wasnt all your fault and get them to cover costs. Or if it was a dodgy backstreet garage put on your dirtiest clothes and a mean face and give the guy a real talking to! dont let him fob you off.
