When in an uncomfortable, awkward situation for example with very shy, quiet people, those you have little in common with or those you know very little about, what are your usual conversation starters? How do you get the conversation to flow? People to relax? etc. I want to hear some unusual conversation starters not normal and boring ask them about there job? etc because this doesn't make the conversation flow.

Talking about holidays is a good issue to focus on because many people have travelled to many destinations either in the UK or abroad. Usually this will lead to good and bad experiences which will create even further conversation.

I agree with the person who said How was your day. It cant be answered by a simple yes or no, so it's bound to start a conversation.

Emphasize more of the conversation on yourself, but still include them. Ask questions that tell things about yourself to help them open up. They should gradual become more comfortable and become more talkative. A little humor is all you need!
