i work at walmart part time....it sucks *** working there honestly...worst job ever, the managers like to work the associates to the bone....anyways, i work as a sales associate, recently one of the asst. managers told me to get register trained....and now, every freakin' day he wants me to work at the registers....

first of all, i'm not a cashier, i'm a sales associate. if i wanted to work as a cashier, i would have applied for that position, but obviously i didn't....and since my asst. manager wants me to be at the registers all damn day, my department's a mess, since i'm unable to stock, zone, and fix the aisles and products....i work in the chemical department by the way all by my self since they only have one closer in the chemical department.... so basically my asst. manager wants me to work at the cash registers, and he wants my department to look flawless.....
what he is doing, is that even legal ??? i'm soo fed of this, that i'm actually thinking about quitting.

I worked at Walmart for 5 years and I remember them doing this to other associates as well. If I were you I would use the open door policy. Go and talk to the manager above your assistant manager about the problem. I know it has helped some associates. If that doesn't help matters call 1-800 Walmart and get the number to complain to corporate office. Then something will surely be done.

i work at walmart too. I know it sucks. But you obviously can't be in two places at one time. This is happening at the walmart i work at too. They just don't have enough cashiers right now to cover the front end. I've been at walmart for five years cause where I live it pays more than a lot of other places here. And I have worked in worse jobs believe it or not. Try what turtle says also if you exhaust all efforts that route and nothing is done you could file a complaint with the labor board over you assistant manager then they will be investigating the matter. Also since walmart is not union they can just stick you wherever they need you even though you are given title of floor associate if they need you on the register or on the door that's where you go. If you want to stay in your own department trying getting a job with krogers cause they are union.

I've worked at Walmart (2 of them) and understand your problem. It's a no-win situation at Walmart.
Start looking for another job immediately.
If you decide to go retail again, you now know what to ask in the interview. Get it clear straight up regarding cashier duties.

It's a busy time of year for retailers. They will put you where they need you.
What you need to do is keep track of the hours worked as a cashier and request a pay correction once you have looked at your pay stub and confirmed your suspicion.
If they refuse then I would quit when they needed me the most.
I can be quite evil at times, muhahaha.
