Ask this question to a group of animals and you may be in for a big surprise(if you can understand their lingo).A man's brain isn't sharp in all respects as many animals have superior mental faculties than a man like seeing,hearing ,reflex actions and so on.

We started from the smartest animals on earth. We then used intelligence to extend our capabilities by the use of tools and an extensive social organization. A few million years of selection pressure that strongly favored the more intelligent, social animal with the best communication skills has resulted in humans.

Man is more free to choose and make himself,which needs Intelligence! Animals are governed mostly by instincts,they hardly have any choice to exercise!
