the pen drive when connected is seen to recognised " new hardware found ", but neither the l.e.d glows, nor is it shown in the disk drive list , and nor am i able to format it..........can any one suggest what is the matter and what can i do about it ?

Usually caused by windows poor USB management stuff, and can be refreshed.
Windows key(the one for start menu on left of keyb) + PAUSE above cusrors then select "device manager"
OR right click my computer, select properties, then hardware tab, then device manager
Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus section, clisk the + to expand it
right click and DELETE all the ROOT HUB items and other HUB items, also CONTROLLERS
Don't panic, they come back
Shut down the PC and start it up
Let windows do all it's "found new hardware" stuff, then once it all stops, shut down and restart one more time and then try the USB key.

The port or the drive may be dead.
