Christmas is to be celebrated in a holy way. Be clear about the fact that Christ, the Saviour was born on this day (at least, all have taken it like that). We must thank God for sending the Saviour on earth to wash away our sins with His Blood.Every Christian should attend the Midnight Mass which is a joint prayer by all in one place that creates an atmosphere of unified force that acts as an inspiration to all to lead a better Christian life than ever before. I believe, Christmas is meant to be celebrated like this.
Coming to the other points, like , buying new clothes and having special nice food on this day is just to enjoy this great occasion.Same is done on any joyous occasion by all.
But, gambling, having lot of sex and drinking liquor have nothing to do with celebration of Christmas. This sort of activities is an insult to the very GREAT OCCASION.
I am against such behaviour on this special day.

It means whatever you make of it.
It was never a Christian holiday in the first place, so if you feel nostalgic and good about wining, dining and buying new clothes and shoes, then so be it.
In my longitude and latitude, it gets winter time, so we like the lights, green trees, ornaments, good beer and wine. Including good food and family gathered by the hearth to keep warm and cozy while "White Xmas" by Bing Crosby is playing on the stereo.

Hi! I'm Ina! I see what you mean about your question. My family is now busy shopping for gifts, now that the Christmas countdown got more intense. Christmas isn't supposed to be like that. Christmas is all about spending time with the people you love and the "Shop Till Ya Drop" thingy is like so over. But the the true meaning of Christmas is thanking God that He sent his only Son, Jesus Christ.
Please don't forget the real meaning of Christmas. Remember it by mind and by heart too.
(PS: By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, from my family to yours!)

What it was before and what it is now don't need to be the same thing. There has been a lot of work put into making christmas about fueling the economy.

No, the way i see Christmas is as an opportunity to bond with family and friends (old and new). How this bonding is done is not what is important, just who it's done with.
