I would suggest moving once you have a job-ANY job because ofcourse you can continue to look for something else once you get down here but being unemployed in Orlando when you first arrive is very difficult.
Places are definately hiring but depending on where you are
from you will find the salary amounts disappointing. Doing the exact same job for the exact same employer compared with CT to FL I am actually making $15,000 less. I had to transfer to be down here and do love the Orlando area.
I would suggest checking out Seminole County - especially if you have children because it's the best schools in central florida and Lake Mary in Seminole County was recently named best town in the south and #4 best town in america. It's close to Orlando by about 15minutes but suburbs atmosphere.

Here are a few suggestions that might help. First contact the Orlando Sentinel newspaper, www.orlandosentinel.com and see about getting a partial subscription for Wed. and Sunday papers to be sent to you. Reading those will give you a good idea of jobs, apartments and how the general area of Central Florida is laid out. (remember Orlando, like many major cities is surrounded by several smaller communities and towns). Check online for information from welcome wagon type organizations, banks, housing developments etc. all will help you to get a better feel for the area. You can also arrange to talk with apartment locating service if need be, but since you will be looking for a job you might want to keep centrally located until you find a permanent residence. Don't be over excited about visiting the theme parks, they will be there for a long time and you'll have plenty of time to visit them later. Many jobs here are in the service industry but depending on your education and experience you may find something more lucrative. Gather as much information you can before moving, check a website that compares the cost of living from your current location to Orlando's, you'll get a better idea of overall costs here. Good luck, and welcome to Florida.

Jobs always depend on what you are qualified to do. Florida is a "right to work" State with abominable wages.
If you have never been here, before committing to an apt. stay at a hotel and do some driving around. Orlando and surrounding area is sprawling and extended. Do not Rush Into Things. The new Medical School, Vets Hosp. etc promise quite a few jobs in the Lake Nona area.

Don't let the Disney image fool you. Outside of that, there's a lot of crime and bureaucratic problems here. Orlando is 11th on the FBI list of dangerous cities. I'm not saying that you won't like it, just be aware.
It tends to be ethnically pocketed. Unless you don't care about that, if you don't tell us your background, we can't be of great help.
Jobs are like most places. They hope you will stay on them forever or you will be cast from society..lol. There are an extra amount of low-paying service jobs than in most areas.
I live here because my work tends to be located in urban areas.
I'm not totally closed off to relocating.

I think Rent.com might be helpful. Compared to NYC the rents are much cheaper. As far as jobs go, it's a buyers market, and what they pay is a joke. It's a Right to Starve state. I would have never left had I done some research beforehand. Strictly from Walmart.

Apartment finders are pretty good. As far as employment, unless you have a college degree orlando doesn't have much to offer.
