Absolutely. Rope, string, leather, bits of pencils, hinges, screws, wire and lots of other things. Wish I had been able to get that box when he passed. Could have used some of it over the years. Good question!!!

It was not just a box,my Dads entire shed was a treasure trove of fixing things, anything that broke he would disappear up the shed with and bring back mended. He had a huge collection of tools built up throughout his lifetime many from the 30's which aren't made now. When he died my Mum threw it all out.

I have one of those boxes too, I got my dads when my mum moved house after he died and its been added to by my Ex husband when we were still together, I have it in my shed now and its bigger than ever, in fact I really need to buy a storage crate for the smaller stuff and put a tool rack up for the large stuff. Another job for my son come the Spring time, won't he be pleased. lol.

YES I DO!! I loved that ol' geezer! He could fix anything and it would run for years after it's life warranty ran out!

I always loved the way he wore his ball cap on backwards and would have a big 'chaw' of tobacco in his mouth! He was a tough SOB that everyone liked.

He ran that old gas station for years and always gave every kid that came there a piece of Wriggles chewing gum!
I can see that yellow package to this day and remember him asking me to choose which hand he was hiding it in,
behind his back! somehow, as if I was 'gifted' I always chose the correct hand!.....sneaky grandpa!

Do you remember how he used to set and read the latest issue of Readers Digest? He would bury himself in that thing and be there for hours! I still love to read the darn thing!

I guess we will always miss him and think about how cool he was for 'an old dude' and remember the things he showed us.

R.I.P. Paw-Paw.

We have one of those, only now it has become the "garage". There are things in there dating from the 40's which "might come in useful" (if he can find them and if he can squeeze into the garage first) - no room for a bike, let alone a car.
There is even a freezer of food in there which I haven't been able to reach for 5 years!

There is an outbuilding on my property that has the leavings of many grandads. I invite everybody in the neighborhood to check out the "garage" before they buy something...screws, nuts, bolts, nails, oddments of pipe, etc. When my husband died, we gave away all the motorcycle parts, they were valuable to collectors.

I call mine the shed(although its stone built and has a tiled roof) even I dare not travel far into its murky inter-land, for fear of being captured by alien beings and used in the manufacture of something really useful but only to be used in the future.

I was fortunate to get the wood box that my grandfather had. He had notched out handle holds on the ends to carry it. He had a small bench in his shed and had his box slid under there. Grandpa always seemed to be able to fix everything!
