I think this story is outrageous, in the reports I have read, the boy involved was a bit of a soft target for bullies anyway. The whole thing was filmed on another kids mobile phone and captures the teacher/support worker kneeling next to him. The boy involved did not tell his parents as he was "humiliated and ashamed". The whole thing was exposed when another teacher saw it on a pupils mobile. The poor kid involved is so withdrawn and traumatised he can barely speak about it.
Absoloutely despicable!
I worked in education for nine years and it would not be alright as some posters have suggested, to do this to even one of the little shits.
Bullying at its very worst.
Of course it went too far and those involved should be sacked. Teachers/support workers are there to defend and look after the children in their care, not truss them up like turkeys and ridicule them in front of their peers !This story has made me very angry. My sons are this age, I cannot begin to imagine how that poor boy is feeling. Damage like this lasts a long long time.
My thoughts are with him and his family.

The way I understood it, it was just a gag, the student didn't suffer any physical or psychological harm. But in this day and age we are so PC you can't even have fun with your students without getting sued.
The school board is just trying to cover its own butt by suspending the teachers. They don't want to go to court and incur legal costs. Somebody should give the parents of the boy a good talking to, tell them how ridiculous and frivolous their suit is.
Ditto, I didn't realise these were the circumstances. If this is true, then the teachers should be suspended - from the profession!

I thought it was all a bit of fun.I like it when the teachers can interact with the pupils in a good friendly way like this, the teachers then look like human beings to the kids instead of mini Hitlers like it was when i went to school. The teachers at my kids school have a brilliant rapport with parents and pupils and the school has been named in the countries top 10 for ongoing achievements. So they must be doing it right.
The children are all disciplined and relaxed and know, for no matter what reason they can always approach a teacher without getting their heads bitten off.
I think it was an overreaction.A bit of fun never hurt anyone.

one of the boys in my school did just that to a guy friend of mine. It's was meant 2 b a practical joke but i think its bullying.trying up a student is in my books putting someone down and is bullying. I think they deserve whatever tehy would get adn be suspended. it's only fair. the school should also take intao account how the kid being tied up feels...tehy should offer him counseling. cos being bullied is one of teh worst things experinces to go thru. i should know cos i've been bulied my entire life

It's seems a bit far for a practical joke between students and teachers. They should have definitely been reprimanded as they should have known better. But it is easy to judge errors of judgement.

No one deserves to be tied up and teachers don't have the authority needed to administer such punishment.

typical of teachers, if it happened to them it would be an outrage and cited as a youth of today story, but if they do it, it's just a harmless prank. teachers are too busy trying to dominate children instead of doing their job and actually teach them something.
