I understand that Mormon marriages are sealed in the temple (married) for time and eternity. A marriage that is sealed will still exist in heaven after the husband and wife die. If your spouse dies before you, are you allowed to be married in the temple again? Do you have to go through some sort of unsealing procedure? In other words, are you allowed to have more than one wife in heaven? If remarriage is allowed for men, I assume it would not be for women.
If there is a ban on heavenly polygamy, I assume there would be a grandfather clause (the polygamists of the early church would still be allowed to be polygamists in heaven).
Thanks.

Thank you all for providing information on what the bible says about marriage after death, but what I'm really curious about is what the LDS church says about it.

As a current active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I can tell you that we do NOT practice polygamy. It is illegal if for no other reason. As a woman, I can only ever be sealed to one man, unless the sealing is undone. However, you cannot have a sealing undone if your spouse is dead. A man on the other hand can be sealed to more than one woman. However, the first must either be dead or a divorce final. The second sealing must be approved by the leaders of the church if there was a divorce without the sealing being undone.
We do believe that there will be "polygamy" in heaven. We do believe that marriages can be eternal. We also believe that families can spend eternity together.
Below is a link to all the articles written by the leaders of our faith regarding the issue of polygamy. Read them. There will be scriptural references in them. Use your Bible for the ones there and you can use the online Book of Mormon available at www.lds.org for the others.
Hope this helps.
FYI: Each of those scriptures that was quoted before were taken completely out of context. Abraham had more than one wife and he was a Prophet of God.

Yes but it only works in one direction.
When a couple get married in the Mormon temple and then divorce, the church considers them still sealed, so when the man wants to re-marry in the temple, his ex has to submit a "clearance," basically her approval to the man's being sealed to a second wife. But if the woman wants to re-marry in the temple, a clearance isn't sufficient; the prior sealing has to be canceled.

It is not a 'loophole'. No one gets sealed for eternity with an expectation of early death of the wife. If it happens the husband may remarry for eternity if the second wife is not a widow sealed to some already. A widow may only be sealed for time on the second sealing.
Yes Jesus said people are not married in Heaven. These eternal marriages take place on earth. Christ gave the apostles the power to seal on earth and it would be sealed in Heaven.
Ephesians 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

It does not matter what the LDS do/don't allow. The USA does not allow polygamy...which is the crime of bigamy. In Matthew 22:30, Jesus Christ Himself said: "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven." So, a man in heaven wil not even have ONE wife, let alone several. You, and Mitt Romney, would know this IF your WERE Christians, instead of anti-Christian cultists. You know what they say about that word assume...it makes an *** of U & ME. No LDS policy, grandafather clauses, or assumptions, have the slightest existance in Heaven. GOD-NOT Joseph Smith-rules there.

Google a Strong's Concordance online:
I think the Bible says there is no marriage nor giving in marriage in heaven.
Therefore the polygamists do it here - I think in Colorado City, but it's illegal and their leader was in trouble with the law I saw on the TV news.
Joy to you!
