take place in such mentally advanced countries like Norway and Canada. Understand, I like these two so that's one thing that doesn't fit there.

it's no more barbaric than slaughtering cows or hunting deer... people need food.... should we outlaw hunting all together or just hunting the cute ones?
heartless? i find it amusing how some people think they are morally superior to others because they love seals
no... the way that cows and seals are killed is not the same... but you are not going to tell me that the way that cows are killed is humane (electric shock-unconsciousness-then bleeding to death) but the seal death is inhumane (club or hakapik-unconsciousness-death)
you object because they're cute and you know it
and thankyou Sasha Ann for contributing to this discussion

Long-standing traditions of hunting, among various groups, who were really making an honest living by so doing.
Then, a culture of greed brought in more "reason" to continue.
So, what was a good thing for farmers, fishermen, "Natives," etc., has become a money-making proposition.
Similar to "overfishing," except that baby seals are cute, and slimy fish are less cuddly.

You may be the first person ever to have come up with the phrase "mentally advanced countries".
It's a bit off topic but I just thought I would note that. Carry on.

My personal belief that life shouldn't be taken away needlessly. If you terminate a creature's life, thank use it to sustain yours. I don't feel sorrow when a creature's life has been taken, not because I'm heartless, it's because everyone dies. Death happens to everyone, to you and to I, we have the same fate as a seal, but that doesn't provide you with the right to prevent someone else from living.

Supply and demand in the commercial world Lyrics. It's that simple. As cruel as it is? Supply and demand is at the root of it all. No demand? Then there is no one going to go out on to the frozen ice fields of the ocean to hunt the wee things down with their bloody clubs and skinning knives.

Yeah they are so cute. And cuteness factors in so highly with morality.
Please
Do you understand what you are saying? Koreans eat dogs, even puppies. People eat duck embryos. Some people eat fetuses of mammals. Some eat brains. So what? It's dead anyway. Like it makes a difference if we gently gas it versus bashing it's head in? Do you think the animal would care after it's dead?

because no matter how removed we pretend we are from those early men and women we still can be just as cruel and barbaric. we have yet to learn from our mistakes as a culture and animal.

I don't know. But, seal hunting should be illegal in all countries. People who hunt seals are heartless and unbelievably stupid.
I love seals <3
