What do you have to go through to get on birth control?

My mom said she’d let me go on it if I didn’t have to go through what she went through to get on it. What do you have to go through to be on birth control? Do they examine you or something? I want to be on it because I always get cramps so bad I end up throwing up a lot and I can barely move for three days and it bleeds so heavy for a week and it’s never regular. I also do it with my boyfriend and I don’t want to get pregnant. So I really kinda need it I think. What would they do to me if I do finally let her get me an appointment? Driving myself there isn’t an option I’m only 13. Thanks.

I just went to the gynecologist today for really bad cramps too. That's probably what they'll suggest for your cramps. If you're sexually active or 21, you'll need a pelvic exam-there's great sites on teh internet that detail the whole exam. They'll do a breast exam, bimaual exam (insert 2 fingers in vagina & press on your abdomen to check your organs) and a pap smear-they open up the vagina w/ a speculum & swab the cervix. Then you sit & chat w/ the doc awhile. And you're done. a bit painful but really not so bad-it's worth it for your cramps, believe me.

First of all, you are way too young to be "doing it" with your boyfriend! Even with birth control, you could get pregnant. Are you prepared to have a baby at your age? Your body hasn't even developed enough to have a baby.

Of course you would have to be examined. I don't know what your mother had to go through to get on it, but if you were my daughter, I'd be a lot more concerned about you having sex.
