The bible places men and women into different categories. Men are (supposedly) superior to women and the women were kept separate from men in the churches. This biblical law still persists in the Jewish religion whereby men sit downstairs and women in the balcony. Modern day Jews do not abide by this law and seat women with men. The LDS church followed the Jewish bible in many ways and it takes years to reform what was written over three thousand years ago. The Quakers also kept men and women apart in church.
