It starts with a girl singing

Da da da--in a similar melody to "I Dream of Jeannie"

Then goes:

I am sitting in the morning...

then the waiter comes and goes to pour her coffee, but is distracted by someone at the door. A man and woman walk in, and they are kissing. The singer says she turns away and pretends not to see them...

Then back to the da, da, da, da in the "I Dream of Jeannie" style again.

I'm fairly certain the song came out in the 90's. Possibly late, late 80's but I don't think so. I think it was early 90's.

Thanks if you can help me.

Tom's Diner - Suzanne Vega

I am sitting
In the morning
At the diner
On the corner

I am waiting
At the counter
For the man
To pour the coffee

And he fills it
Only halfway
And before
I even argue

He is looking
Out the window
At somebody
Coming in

"It is always
Nice to see you"
Says the man
Behind the counter

To the woman
Who has come in
She is shaking
Her umbrella

And I look
The other way
As they are kissing
Their hellos

I'm pretending
Not to see them
And Instead
I pour the milk

I open
Up the paper
There's a story
Of an actor

Who had died
While he was drinking
He was no one
I had heard of

And I'm turning
To the horoscope
And looking
For the funnies

When I'm feeling
Someone watching me
And so
I raise my head

There's a woman
On the outside
Looking inside
Does she see me?

No she does not
Really see me
Cause she sees
Her own reflection

And I'm trying
Not to notice
That she's hitching
Up her skirt

And while she's
Straightening her stockings
Her hair
Is getting wet

Oh, this rain
It will continue
Through the morning
As I'm listening

To the bells
Of the cathedral
I am thinking
Of your voice...

And of the midnight picnic
Once upon a time
Before the rain began...

I finish up my coffee
It's time to catch the train

There are two versions of the song:

Suzanne Vega - Tom's Diner
DNA featuring Suzanne Vega - Tom's Diner

The a-cappella (no music version) album cut is the first from 1986. In 1991, mixmasters DNA, working independently, laid down a tremendous dance groove using their beats, some keyboards and Suzanne's original vocal. Suzanne was so delighted in its result she made a "Tom's Diner" remix album of thirteen different mixes put out. The original was never a single, while DNA got Suzanne to her highest chart point (2). "Luka" made the Top 40 at #3.

I Dream of Jeannie/Danny Boy [medley] Lyrics
Artist(Band):Joan Baez

I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair,
floating like a vapor on the summer air.
I hear her melodies like days gone by,
sighing around my heart o’er the fond hopes that die.

Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain,
Wailing for her lost love that comes not again.
I dream of Jeannie and my heart bows low,
nevermore to find her where the deep waters flow.

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
from glen to glen and down the mountain side.
The summer’s gone and all the roses falling;
it’s you, it’s you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow
or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow.
It’s I’ll be there in sunshine or in shadow;
oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

But come ye back when summer’s in the meadow
or when the valley’s hushed and white with snow.
It’s I’ll be there in sunshine or in shadow;
oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.
