~Simply put, Japan conquered Korea. At the end of WWII, rather than to give Korea back to the Koreans, the USSR and the US by treaty agreed to divide the country. The Treaty also required that internationally supervised elections would be held in 1954 to unify the nation and restore sovereignty to the Koreans. However, by 1952 it was more than apparent that the Korean people (north and south) would elect a majority of communists. Eisenhower and the CIA did not want that to happen so they let it be known that they would prevent the elections from taking place. [The same thing would happen in Vietnam and the reunification required in 1956 did not occur until the US finally headed the advice of the French way back in 1952 and got the hell out.]

Meanwhile, the Koreans themselves got uppity and decided that the USSR, the USA and the UN had no right to tell them what they could do with their own country. The "North Koreans" (a fictitious entity created by the USA/USSR agreements) sent troops into "South Korea" (an equally fictitious entity created by the same agreements). Harry Truman responding by threatening to use atomic weapons. (Hey, Saddam isn't the only one to threaten to use WMDs, but the US did use them in '45 and was more than willing to do it again. Barry Goldwater and the CIA wanted to use bigger, better, new and improved models in '64 - kill for peace, it's the American way: just ask Red Cloud and Geronimo.) The Soviets responded by sending in troops and assistance to the North Koreans. The Soviets did nothing in the north that the US hadn't already done in the south.

The Korean elections still haven't been held. The Soviets wanted them held as per the original agreements and treaties. The US refused. The war followed. I suppose that means the North Koreans are subjugated to and controlled by the Soviets. On the other hand, if Uncle Sam is this wonderful protector of democracy, why don't we just demand that the elections take place? Oh, that's right. The will of the people is paramount unless the will of the people will send them off in some direction that we don't like.

I suppose that's why it was okay for the CIA to topple democratically elected socialist and communist governments in Iran (Operation TP/Ajax) and Guatemala (Operations PB/History and PB/Success) or to try to assassinate heads of state like Fidel Castro, or to actually kill them, like Salvador Allende and Ngo Diem (and Jack Kennedy?). Or to try to invade and conquer independent nations (Cuba, Panama, Iraq, Afghanistan etc, etc, and on and on.)

Your totally up front and unflinchingly honest government would surely not say bad things about the evil communists just because they may have some policy differences, would they? I think not. I mean, just because we tried and tried and tried for years to get the pipeline built across Afghanistan and couldn't surely wouldn't have anything to do with the invasion there. And the fact that construction began immediately after the invasion is pure coincidence. And the fact that Dick Cheney's buddies and former business partners got the contracts is simply a weird quirk of fate. At least the Taliban warlords who posed such a threat have been tamed. Now they are just simple farmers. In each of the last 3 years, under the watchful eyes of the ever vigilant US military, those simple farmers have produced record crops of poppies and the price of opium and heroin has never been lower and the supply has never never been more plentiful. Even our children can get it with their lunch money at the playground nearest you.

But I digress. Yes, the Evil Empire is the bane of mankind and should be nuked off the face of the earth. So said Dickie Helms, so said Curtis LeMay, and so would say Georgie the Younger if he had the balls. So far, at least, even with sadistic killers like Robert McNamara and Henry Kissinger and Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan and George Bush (either one, take your pick) at the helm, the button hasn't been pushed. Give it time, it may still come. But as your blood reaches 10,000 degrees and your bones turn to dust, bear in mind that it was them Ruskie bastards that did it to you.

If you want to learn anything about the world you live in, look to the primary sources. Don't expect to find any truth on a site like this. And definitely don't rely on the words spewed out of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Heck, half the time the White House has no clue what Langley is doing is doing and the other half the Pentagon is plotting against any Commander-in-Chief that doesn't give them their way. In trying to figure what has happened or what is happening, look at all sides of the issue, rather than just searching for support for the conclusion that the "bad guys" made it happen. There is more than ample reason that much of the world looks upon Uncle Sam as 'the bad guy',

You will not get any specifics. SImply because all the information on this subject is still a state secret in North Korea and in Russia
The N.Koreans claim they did everything by themselves. Anyone claiming otherwise gets shot- and that is NOT a joke.
The Russians claim no involvement whatsoever, and if pushed will accept that some "volunteers" went to North Korea, but acted only as instructors and did not participate in any fighting
This is of course believable- to anyone who will believe that an illiterate farm labourer can get into a modern jet fighter plane and shoot down veteran fighter pilots flying equal or superior planes
BTW the USSR gave way more than 50 milion US$ (even at last century values)

Kim IL Sung arrived in North Korea in the uniform of a Red Army Major, and was then made the country's ruler.

Stalin authorized the start of the war (June,50) during Kim's visit to Moscow in March-April, 50.

Russian officers drafted the invasion plan, and supplied the material, guns, tanks, artillery, ammunition, etc. to ensure the North's material superiority.

Stalin sent 3 Red Army Air force Divisions to support China's intervention.
