I might be pregnant, and I'm worried about how the medications I take will affect my baby.
I take trileptol, zoloft, wellbutrin, and trazedone.
(sorry about the spelling)

Also, my parents want to put me on birth control. If I am pregnant, won't that hurt my baby?

Thanks so much for your help.

It's too early right now to get tested, but if I am, that would have been two weeks that my baby was exposed to those meds.

All the medicines you listed except zoloft are bad for a baby. And the doctor should ask if there is a possiblity of pregnancy before prescribing birth control. And should run a test to find out before putting you on birth control. I would call your doctor about the other meds and get advice about the other meds.

Edit... I am also taking zoloft and wellbutrin...at the same time but I can't remember what the reason he said was.

I took trileptal before I became pregnant. While it is a class C drug it is too new for there to be any real research to know for sure if it's OK...so they had me switch meds before I got pregnant. I was told welbutrin would be fine but it causes my manic phases to return so I stay away from that stuff! Also, they switched me from trazedone to a different medication...so I would say that's not so good. There are mixed reports on Zoloft. So...I would say you need to FIND OUT IF YOU ARE PREGNANT and then talk to your psychiatrist and have them change your meds to ones that are safer for pregnancy.

You can research any medication they suggest on pubmed.com or do a search for psychological periodicals. Just list the medication name and pregnancy and you can get links to actual research that will tell you what you need to know. Some of the periodical sites charge for the info but several don't so just keep looking until you find one that's free.

To others that are second guessing this girls doctors...sometimes a person doesn't respond to just one medication...they can get better results from mixing two medications. Zoloft and Welbutrin work on two different neurotransmitters...(serotonin and norepinephrine)...so it makes sense that they could be combined.

Not to be nosy, but why are you taking Zoloft and Wellbutrin at the same time? Both are used for depression. I have taken both, but never at the same time. I also take Trazedone to help me sleep at night. I am not sure of the Trileptol, I have never heard of that. I took Zoloft throughout my whole pregnancy and everything was fine. But I am not sure about the other drugs. Are all of them necessary? Or do your parents have you on these meds?

Edit: I didn't know that you could take both at the same time. Seems like it would be too much. Maybe each targets a specific thing?

All of the drugs you are on are considered class C by the FDA--"Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the fetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women, or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus." www.safefetus.com

Most birth control pills are a class X--which means they will cause problems potentially miscarriage. However, drs do a pregnancy test before starting you on birth control if you are sexually active.
You need to be responsible and get a pregnancy test--even a home test would be fine.

If you tell your doc when you go to get BC they can do a pregnancy test and there is a doctor patient confidentality law so your doctor cant tell your parent unless you say he/she can. I would go to the doc and tell about all the meds and ask it shouldnt to early on but i wouldfind out before to long

Go to the Dollar Tree and buy a pregnacy test.
Do not take birth control until you know.
Better find a place that can help you.
Maybe this site.

You'll need to take a pregnancy test to confirm your pregnancy and then speak with your dr. about taking antidepressants and antiseizure medications.

As far as the birth control goes...if you take a pregnancy test you'll know whether you should begin birth control or not...but no, it shouldn't be taken during pregnancy.

Best of luck to you!

Unless you desperately need them its best not to be on any medication while your pregneant.

Why would your parent put you on birth control while your pregnant? maybe after? You cant exactly get pregnant while you already are. Your ovaries wont release the eggs while your pregnant. so being on birth control while your pregnant is actually a waste of money time and its gonan hurt your baby.

THERE ARE ONLY CERTAIN MEDICATIONS THAT YOU CAN TAKE WHILE YOU ARE PREGNANT. I WOULD SEE A DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY AND MAKE SURE THAT THOSE ARE OK. GOOD LUCK
