I have been a designer for on and off almost 7-8 years. Also I would be doing this business from home, that would cut down on the expense of rent and ect. Also I'm young 23 but Im good at what I do so I want to let people know that somehow and also any advise on a portfolio. I dont have pictures of the stuff I have done becuase I never thought that I would have enough guts to do it. So any advise on that too would be great. THANKS!!!!

I'm glad to see a young woman starting her own business. I did the same thing! I had written a really long answer and my internet froze up, but I'll try to recapture what I wrote:

Some possible names I came up with are: Flower Budz, Arrangements by...., Lillies and Posies Florist, Blossoms and Blooms Florist, Fresh Regards Florist, Essence Florals, The Posh Posy Florists.

Think of the image you want to portray. What colors (1-3 is best) will represent your business. Look out on the web at other online florists to see how they look and the services they offer. Use them as a guide.

As far as a website goes, a great resource is to sign up with Yahoo! hosting web starter (very affordable). You can create a site in a few minutes using their site solutions tool. To accept credit cards on your site, sign up for a paypal business account (free).

To show people your work, begin by creating 6-8 of your products. Buy or borrow a good digital camera and with good lighting, capture your work. You can add these pictures to your website for people to see. You can also purchase easy to use photo slideshow creation software from coffeecup.com. If you want a free photo slideshow, go to bravenet.com. They add advertisements to their tools, unless you pay for premium.

Order some nice business cards from vistaprint.com. They have great prices (sometimes even free) and nice looking templates to get you started. You can also order fliers from them and even have them create it (extra charge though). Make sure you leave off your address because you'll be working from home.

If you want a professional looking image, you can order a virtual phone/fax account from ringcentral (http://www.print-ovations.com/Valuepartners.html)

You can create an order form in MS word for your clients to place orders with you. Also, make sure to come up with some type of payment rules and policies for refunds to protect yourself (you might want to consult an attorney).

If you need any design assistance like business card and flyer design, or logo design, shoot me an e-mail at info@print-ovations.com and reference Yahoo! Answers. I will give you a discount on my design services. you'll also be able to look at some of my work.

I hope that I have helped you in some way,

Heather Hampton

"Flower Power" We put power into every flower made.

TV Commercial (for the future): superhero-like.

Short rhyming words are what people remember most, even kids. And when you do get it up and going, advertise, advertise, advertise! You can even make your own business cards. Walmart has precut business cards. You can make your own flyers and distribute them on your own. You can list your ad on free local websites like craigslist.org. Good luck and remember to advertise!

Well you will need to make a lot of arrangements to take pictures of.
Get connected with wedding planners.
Ok now we need a name. Ok. In order to help with this i would need to know a bit more of what direction you plan on going. How large of an area you plan on covering and if you have future plans to open a retail outlet.
