'But analysts say that what appeared to be just another cleanup when it began last spring is proving to be a strategic effort to protect the regime from "vulnerabilities" that could be exploited by archenemies such as the United States.'

as if they were common belief. why is the media pumping up this confrontation, when it's obvious to anyone with a global perspective Iran just wants a seat at the table?

'There are lots of countries around the world that already have a seat at the table and yet they don't go around threatening other countries with annihilation.'

ahmenijhad was talking about the terrorist state of isreal. and i tend to agree with him on this issue.

also, link the direct translation of the quote you are referring too, instead of putting your own personal spin on it.

certainly not... the term "arch-enemy" implies that the country is worth our time. iran isn't. if they make a bomb, great, we should just nuke them. wars are much more expensive then nukes and hardly as effective.

i think most americans would agree that russia and china are more fitting of the title of co-arch enemy.

What has Iran done to EARN a seat at that table
Iran is the one, or more specifically Imanutjob is the one that has called us their arch enemy. They speak not only with words, but with actions as well. Iran is the number one financier of terrorism world wide. Iran has spent millions of dollars training and arming the terrorists that are responsible for the vast majority of attacks in Iraq. Imanutjob has also declared on numerous occasions that it is his desire to see both Israel and the U.S. wiped off the map. There are many sources for this, including this article if you read it correctly.

Edit
The way"arch enemies like the United States......" is worded. It does not say countries like the U.S. ET AL that believe that Iran is an arch enemy.

If you think that it is stretching the truth to pass comments that over-emphasize the tensions between Iran and the US, then it is certainly tearing at the fabric of reality to end your statement with " ... it's obvious to anyone with a global perspective Iran just wants a seat at the table?"

There are lots of countries around the world that already have a seat at the table and yet they don't go around threatening other countries with annihilation.

So, no, as an American, I don't consider Iran our arch-enemy in the sense that they are the greatest threat to the US and our number 1 problem in the world, but I certainly don't mistake their actions as the immature actions and reactions of a nation simply struggling to find it's place in the world.

Shia extremists control Iran, and subject its people to a regime of tyranny, and they use Iran's resources to fund terrorists. They hate America and Americans and are trying to get nuclear weapons.

Like al Qaeda and the Sunni extremists, they want to drive America out of the region, to destroy Israel, and to control the Middle East. They arm terrorist groups like Hezbollah, and pay them to attack Israel and America. Only al Qaeda has murdered more Americans than Hezbollah, but they haven't hit us at home yet. It was Hezbollah that was behind the 1983 bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut that killed 241 Americans, the 1996 bombing of Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia that killed 19 Americans. Hezbollah's leader said "Let the entire world hear me. Our hostility to the Great Satan [America] is absolute… Regardless of how the world has changed after 11 September, Death to America will remain our reverberating and powerful slogan: Death to America."

Iran's leaders support Hezbollah and are open about their hostility toward us and talk excitedly about wiping us out. Not long ago Iran's president said "open your eyes and see the fate of pharaoh… if you do not abandon the path of falsehood… your doomed destiny will be annihilation." He also warned us that "If you would like to have good relations with the Iranian nation in the future… bow down before the greatness of the Iranian nation and surrender. If you don't accept [to do this], the Iranian nation will… force you to surrender and bow down."

If Iran wants a seat at the table, they have to learn to be a welcome additon to the table and learn acceptable table manners. We aren't into hate. Our less educated liberals take threats lightly, but most of us do not accept such behavior.

And this what Iran harps directly to polarize Arabs and Moslems in the direction of its politics. as quickly as the Arabs are trapped by potential of Iran, they are in a position to by no potential unfastened themselves, because of the fact this is the Arabs who destroyed the classic Persian Empire which coated fairly much the finished midsection East section. to that end Iran constructive properties ability, land, human beings. the 2d activity of Iran "the Heavenly, Godly ability" is to injury the great devil (united statesa.) that's the emblem of all evils on earth and by way of this manner GOD will inherit the earth and all what's on it.
