When in doubt, get both... Each has their advantages. Charcoal will make better smoked meats. Gas gives you easier control over your heat. They probably both take about as long to heat up. If you use charcoal, get a chimney starter to go with it. The chimney will get the charcoal a lot quicker, and you won't need lighter fluid. The picture on that page is grilling as opposed to bbq. BBQ tends to be low and slow, indirect cooking. Grilling tends to be higher temps over direct heat. If you get gas, get one with at least 3 zones. When you bbq in that, you can set your temps on the outside zones, and leave the middle zone for your indirect cooking. I have both charcoal and gas. I like gas when I need direct, controlled heat, or to finish a piece of meat that started on the charcoal grill. I like charcoal when I need higher temps, or when I bbq. I never use lighter fluid, short of whats in the briquettes. Both do incredible jobs once you get to know it. Practice practice practice. @Ricky - WHAT??? Beef is red meat...

Sounds like the perfect time to fire up the Ol' Grill and sear up some Polar Bear and Whale Blubber or whatever else you have on hand.

You mean that -25 is warm for your area?
Sounds almost like Thunderbay Ont. just a bit colder! If you want heat do what you need to get it! I'm in Enderby and it's often too warm here for me! I often eat ice cream outside here in the winter time! Sounds like Alaska might be the place for me!
