Recently a young man picked up the 13 year old sister of his girl friend, with whom, he has a child, he took the younger girl somewhere killed her and hid her body.. he tried to lie his way out of it and now faces murder charges.. the body still has not been found.. Hundreds of volunteers are looking for her.. he knows where the body is but he is not telling.. her blood was on his shoes, in his car, and on his clothes.. several people knew he was going to pick up the girl and take her home.. he was seen with her.. yet he still won't tell what he did with her body.. because he thinks that if there is no body he won't be convicted.. the family is devastated.. now if you were the girls father, would you want to torture the punk or not? I would. I would make the rat talk.. I would make him tell me where my daughter is.. What would you do?

Generally, no. This is a case of "the end justifies the means" type of argument. But this is the path towards chaos. Once you take that step that says, anything goes for a good cause, then you have stepped away from civilization.
In the USA we believe that everyone should have the same rights. Including the criminal. Torturing a criminal violates our laws that say a punishment should fit the crime but should not be either cruel or unusual. Torture generally falls under the "cruel" category. Also, if you are religious, think of what you are saying based on the Golden Rule when you torture someone. Do you REALLY want people to treat YOU that way?
Before anyone asks, it is my opinion that the current furor over the prisoners at Guantanamo and the waterboarding thing are wrong, wrong, wrong. Some VERY misguided people are involved there and none of them are helping the USA. They are degrading the image of Americans by doing the very things we hold to be incorrect behavior. I'm hoping that I'll live long enough to see that stigma fade out.

Listening to politicians is like torture but we have to for the greater good.
Try asking one a Yes or No question and you get like a novel as a response.

Probably not.
How would we know the info he gave us is legit or just something he said to stop you from torturing him?
