We also have Princeton, Cornell, Georgetown, Penn State, NYU, and Columbia. I know that I'm going to sound like an arrogant person but the Northeast is such a better place than the South. I like living in a blue state, I think we show the true integrity of America. We are living in the center of intellectualism and progress.

1. A lot of that has to do with how long those areas were settled. They had a demand for education before most of the US was formed and there was money in these areas as well.
2. The difference between a "red" or "blue" state is usually a small %
3. Campus population is made up of many red and blue state students.
4. How many government officals you do not like graduated from these schools? (including your favorite)
5. There are plenty of great universities throughout the US. Ivy league schools are over-rated and over-priced.

I guess you are trying to prove that these institutions contribute to blueness being better than redness... however there is a case to be made that these places are holding our citizens back, as well. Remember, high population has more to do with where these places are, and high population makes blueness more prevalent than redness.

I have more, but my infant needs to be fed. The point is, it doesn't matter where these places are, they are overrated - as is the rest of our so called education system. I'll pull up some patent numbers if you think I'm wrong, but generally, our education system at the upper end is corrupt, self serving, and politically biased towards status quo.

There's some prestigious school in the Red States (University of Virginia, Vanderbilt, Duke, William and Mary, Rice, Wake Forest) but perhaps in some red states, they're more worried about keeping evolution out of schools and getting Jesus into schools than they are concerned about kids actually getting an education. I believe several years ago, there was an Alabama politician actually bragging about the fact that Alabama spends less money per student than any other state in the union. If you're actually bragging about that, then your priorities are messed up.

Sure the Blue states have the elite universities, research facilities and Nobel prize winners.

But how many NCAA Div I championships and Heisman winners some from the Blue States?

I think what your trying to get at is that Blue states have better higher institutions of learning--??? and therefore their people are somehow smarter than people in RED STATES??

If that is the case--These institutions were in place long before the democrats turned into wacko liberals.

But if it's any consolation. Many Professors and people that go into the field of teaching do seem to be a lot more liberal than say the NASCAR crowd.

I have a theory though--those "SMART PEOPLE" never had to work outside of academia. THE REAL WORLD. They tend to disdain violence and believe that criminals are just people who have been socially disadvantage so they tend to excuse the act of the individual--choosing to blame problems on society in General. I think it gives them an air of superiority over all the other people.

Lets face it -----those liberals that work in academia--that in the passed, argued to express their views. Now that they are in the authoritative positions just want to stifle any descent and force their social views on the students.

Some times there is no excuse for On the Job Training.
Because on paper--socialism looks pretty good.

It's because the people that teach in those institutions lack the drive to succeed in the real world. And I have noticed that they are never tolerant to any opposing view.

Don't believe it? Then go to a Republican speaking at a university. And compare it to the treatment given to a Democrat. I know what happens but I am willing to bet that you would excuse the bad behavior of the Libs shouting down the Republican candidate. And claim that the courtesy shown the Dem means that everyone agrees with him.

It makes perfect sense to talk about institutions that were founded more than a century ago when talking about the current political whims of a region. Great question, Chi! Your neo-Socratic method is educating minds around the world!
