I'm more familiar with those of the Symphony orchestra, so they will be the focus of my attention.
The brass section of a S.O. include: trumpets, horns(French horns), trombones and tuba. These are standard.
Some scores call for additional instruments, others do not utilize all of the above.
The most augmented brass sections, are those of Richard Wagner: the German opera composer. I can't remember them all, but do know they include in some instances a bass trumpet, bass trombone and one of the composer's own invention, the famous Wagner tuba.
When one listens to such works of his like those of "The Ring", their presence is easily discernible. Enough of Wagner; I always become side-tracked when talking about him.
There is such a thing as a Fugal horn, and coronet. These are most often found amongst the earlier classical and Baroque composers music.
The brass of bands - not orchestras - will or might include such instruments as the Sousaphone(a kinda of marching Tuba), baritone(never used in orchestras), etc.
Am sure another responder will have more to offer than what I have listed.
Anyhow,
Wotan

Not including older or ancient instruments: trumpet, piccolo trumpet , cornet (not coronet) , bugle, flugelhorn, French horn, alto horn, mellophone, trombone, bass trombone, baritone, euphonium, tuba, Sousaphone, Wagner tuba. (although made of brass the saxophone is classified as a single reed woodwind).
Musician, director.

Chapped lips will make it a bit more difficult to play, possibly painful too. Your best exercises are long tones and lip slurs at mf. Also, what I believe are the Clark Studies: starting on low D, 123, and playing chromatically softly up to low A and back down. The more you play the stronger your embochure will become, and the less likely you'll have these "dead lip" days. Also practice playing at full volume, but only AFTER you've warmed up and played a while. Like fifteen ot twenty minutes. Best of Luck! Eric
