How did they figure out that certain plants produce the drug in its raw form? What was the motivation behind it?

Heroin was initially intended to be a non-habit forming version of morphine. Failed miserably. Cocaine was intended as a pain-reliver.
LSD was discovered by a chemist looking to cure the headache.

People have been using drugs since before ancient civilizations even started to form. So I guess you'd have to ask a caveman for the real story of how it all got started.

It has been happening for a very long time in human history.
I know in the 1700's they must of had something good in those snuff boxes. Before that,native people's had drugs for spritual practices.

Trial and error...people was bored without xbox. So instead of watching tv or going to the mall, they would eat stuff.

rec drugs were all once legal and considered proper medicine. they all came from ancient people and there knowledge of plants

they just mixed stuff together they never knew it was bad until 60's
