It wasn't the hippies, it was the men in charge of the country who disrespected the men under them for losing the war.
They never took responsibility for the loss, they blamed the noncoms.
For years, the VFW didn't encourage Viet Nam Vets.
So don't tell me that it was hippies.

Actually I had no problem with hippies. I came back in 1968 and I was so upset with the "I could care less" attitude of the people I met in Minnesota (where I was from) that I volunteered to go back to VN. But I got an early discharge instead because the USMC needed bodies that could serve a full 13 month tour, and I was happy to be outta there!

The only person I have ever hated was a pre-vet student at the University of Minnesota. I was back in college, and got into a discussion with friends, and one asshole pre-vet student, about Viet Nam. This guy said something to the effect he didn't care anything about what was happening in VN. Assuming his is still alive, that is probably the closest he has come to dying, because I was so livid, instant hate! I wanted to kill him! And I left.

Gimme hippies any day! Keep the cheneys and bushes. Or better yet, figure out something to do with them - but I can't say what because the land of the free ain't so free any more.

What is a little "urban myth spit"? It is the **** that counts. The rectal orifices that run the USG are the real problem.

I've heard that the hippies spat at the vetrans when they came home from the war. But I've never read that information in a book. It doesn't seem like something hippies would do. I've actually seen pictures of hippies putting flowers in the barrels of vetran's guns. That certainly isn't spitting. I like hippies. Think they're hearts were in the right spot. Hell, I am a hippie.

I know vets that were spit on and called babykillers, mostly by college students posing as hippies (wannabes), real hippies were too busy running naked in the forest , smoking pot and practicing free sex to do much of anything else.

Some spat on them. They called them baby killers. Stuff like that.

They spat on them, threw eggs at them, called them pigs and baby killers, abused them by harassing them, insulting them and calling them other vile names. I can never forgive ANYONE who insults our brave men and women who were simply doing their jobs.
