what does temp mean?

im watching monster in law and the lady called j-lo a temp...what is it?

if it means shes a temporary woman then why would the mother in law say it to her face?

A temp is an employee who is not hired for a long time but rather just to cover a position while someone else is out (on vacation or on leave for example). It implies that their opinion does not count since they will be gone soon.

It is short for temporary. Temporary means not permanent. She is telling J Lo that she is just a temporary person in her son's life.
