This should work for mspowerpoint xp version and up:
1. Go to the slide where you want the sound to start.
2. Right click on a blank part of that slide.
3. Choose "slide transition"
4. The Slide Transition pane should appear on your screen's right side.
5. Go to modify transition>sound. on the sound drop-down list, scroll to the bottom and choose "other sound..." (A pop-up window appears) locate your sound file.
6. Click on "loop until next sound"
7. Now go to the next slide and modify transition>sound again. but this time on the sound drop-down list, choose [no sound]
8. do this to all succeeding slides.

i hope this helps.
