Bacterial Vaginosis [bv]is the name of a condition in women where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria. It is sometimes accompanied by discharge, odor, pain, itching, or burning.

BV stands for _bacterial vaginosis_. It can be caused by a variety of different bacteria; the most classical form is caused by _Gardnerella_, so it's sometimes called "Gardnerella vaginitis." Clear-cut evidence of sexual transmission is lacking. Some authorities believe that treating the sex partner deserves to be studied, but most believe it's simply due to a pH/chemical imbalance in the vagina, and co-treatment is not yet the standard of care. The infection can usually be easily treated with a single dose of metronidazole (Flagyl). Over-the-counter treatments aren't as good. DONT drink alcohol for at least 36 hours after treatment with metronidazole--it'll make you sick. If your symptoms persist, you may ask your physician to consider co-treatment. Good luck to you.

Those kinds of bacteria really thrive in a warm, moist climate such as a vagina, so it is not a big threat to your BF. If it makes you feel better he can just shower after and be fine.

I have heard that eating yogurt helps maintain the right balance of bacteria. Not sure, though.

Bacterial vaginosis is an over growth of bacteria normally found in the vagina and is not transferred in sexual intercourse or any other sexual contact.

It's the same situation as a yeast infection, the infection can get into the urethra and flourish in there. Then you begin a cycle of passing the infection back and forth. I would suggest that if you have something that he be screened too. Better safe than sorry.

Sounds like it could be. A trip to the Doctor or clinic should answer your question. You don't want a repeat after you have cleared up.

Don't trust your health to a bunch of yoyo's here on Yahoo. Talk to your Doctor.

very doubtful, sounds like a female problem, but check with his or your doctor and for now use a condom just in case (or if its treatable then control yourself for a few days and dont mess around lol)
