I want to go to Japan for a while to just get away, I know a lot of schools in Japan take on British people to help teach the kids English but I don't think I would be so great with kids, are there any other jobs in Japan that isn't labour intensive and the language barrier isn't too big a problem? Also one that would help with accommodation would be good.

cheers!

IT work if you have the appropriate qualifications, otherwise without fluent knowledge of Japanese you are stuck at language teaching. You don't have to teach kids, many of the conversational schools teach adults. However finding an english teaching job in Japan is a bit harder then it used to. One of the biggest English schools went bankrupt recently putting thousands of english teachers out of the job. So you will be competing with them for a job.

Remember for a full work visa in Japan yo need a bachelors degree, if you don't have a bachelors degree, as a UK citizen you can get a Working Holiday Visa (which has its own requirements such as age) a WHV is good up to 1 year so it is not a long term thing.

Well, first you'd need to get a visa to work legally. Are you eligible for a Working Holiday visa?

I've met British and Australian people in Japan on Working Holiday visas working at bars and restaurants, so those sorts of jobs are out there too. I don't think those kinds of jobs would give much assistance with housing though.

No. You'd need to speak, read and write Japanese at a native level. How about Hawaii ?
