My baby girl is always constapated. She cries, strains, and bleeds(streaks- not alot) when she actually passes stool. It seems she has hemrroids if babies can get them. We have moved from nursing, to soy formula, to hypoallergenic formula, to goatmilk. Her other symtoms- night waking and generally fitfulness- has inproved a little, but we still have tears and bleeding everytime she passes stool. It got worse with any food- prunes and juices included. Any suggestions? I would LOVE help

My daughter got constipated at 3 months when we had to put her on an anti-reflux formula. The paediatrician told us to dissolve a teaspoon of brown sugar in 30 mls of water. We gave this to her twice and it worked wonders.
But if this is ongoing you should really take her to a doctor.

My son was very constipated when he was an infant/baby. We were advised to give kayro syrup in his bottle of formula. I never changed the brand (my dr said that it was better to give him regular formula plus the kayro syrup than to give him a less nutritious formula.. we used Enfamil). I never really liked giving him the syrup but I did it when it was necessary. As he got older around the age of your baby girl I started giving him some watered down apple, pear or prune juice. Like 2 oz of water and 2 oz of juice. Babies do NOT need lots of water like some have posted but they do need some. I would try the juice for a few days and then talk to your Dr if that doesn't work. Hope everything works out!
ETA- My son still has to eat raisins as a snack daily to keep his bowels working normally! He is 18 months now!

It isn't abnormal at all. Give your baby plenty of water with KARO syrup. Just a teaspoon in each bottle (don't do it long, or she'll start to love the sweet taste). You can put the syrup in bottles of milk as well. My son is on soy formula, and it can cause constipation in babies. Don't keep switching formulas because it is upsetting to their tender bellies. You can also try massaging her belly and pushing her feet towards her belly when she's having trouble. It helps her out. Massaging any part of her will help her relax.

Short -term answer: a baby-size glycerin suppository (which is osmotic, remember, it draws water into the lower bowel), put one of those in her when she's straining and it'll help her do a smelly in 5-15 minutes.
Long-term: you'll have to liaise with the doctor about this if she has frequent anal bleeding and is often in distress with stomach pains etc - sounds like it could be a symptom of something more serious.

to temporarily help her to poo you could get infant supposatory and cut it in half. but it could make her insides hurt worse....i don't know if you've seen a doc yet, but i'd go on and get her an appt. asap.
i think breastmilk is the easiest to digest for babies, so if that plus anything else you've tried hasn't helped, and she's passing blood something is going on!
if you've already taken her to a doc over it and they haven't offered any more help than leaving you still clueless i would change docs!!!
...maybe you should even take her to the ER tonight.....

The baby is quite deficient in water. Since the baby is now 7 months old, water and juice can be given liberally. There are lots of function of water. Our sweat, the tears, nedded for digestion of food, urine, a small portion needed for our respiration. If water is somewhat deficient, a very little amount of water is left for the consistency of the stool. My advise is to give lots of water or juice for your child to improve movement of the bowel. If still persists after doing this, consult your pediatrician.

You need to see a doctor, its not normal at all.
If she's having this issue while breast feeding its not whats going into her, but the system itself that isnt functioning right.
Does she get water? I dont care what doctors say, but some babies NEED water to keep their digestive systems flowing right.

My mom always used prune juice. Other than that I would definately ask your doctor. Doesn't sound normal.
