That's too easy!
While in Montreal, you MUST check out the following streets:
1. Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest;
2. Rue Saint-Denis;
3. Boulevard Saint-Laurent;
4. Avenue Mont-Royal;
5. Rue Crescent.
Those are the main ones but the whole city is well worth visiting, besides residential areas, of course!
And please don't ignore the East side of town just because your knowledge of the French language ain't up to scratch, is that clear?
And if you have enough time, please do not hesitate to take a pleasant stroll down the Old Montreal, why not (South side of town)?
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
P.S. And please take a moment to check out the following link, by all means...

no one mentioned Old Montreal. I would suggest a map. I bought a map by Rand and McNally where you can see the streets very clear. It costs about 7 dollars. I bought it at the corner of Ste. Catherine and Peel at the newspaper store there. oh, there is a tourist office there around the corner, right across from Dominion Square Park. you can even call there and they will mail you booklets about montreal.i did that and they mailed it to me.

I vote the Main--Boulevard St-Laurent, around Rachel. Don't know what exactly is there these days, but it must still be cool.
Liquor stores aren't open at night, but you can buy beer & wine at any dep until 11 (I assume that hasn't changed).
