they tell him or not? Do you think he has the right to know immediately? If they do tell him they are going to beam her funeral up to the international space station because they can't exactly send a cab up ther, can they?

It's in the news. He already knows about it. Search on his name, you'll find it.

Poor man. Suppose there is always the possibility they could delay the funeral until he returns, though that wouldn't really be fair for the rest of the family.

No doubt the astronaut has undergone in-depth psychological profiling so the authorities will have a fair idea how this will affect him and how he will cope with it. And let's face it, his mum was 90 years of age. He must have considered before he left that something could happen to her in his absence.

It's sad, but I think he should be told, and I think he'll cope with it pretty well.

The poor man, unable to attend his mothers funeral. I hope someone up there with him takes him aside and lets him cry on his shoulder and mourn. It won't be the same as been with the rest of the family and comforting each other but its the decent thing to do. To be there to comfort someone who may be hurting so much.

Your an idiot! You do realise that 'beaming' people up is only on star trek!

The answer is, no they wouldnt tell the astronaught, because that sort of news could seriously jeprodise his ability to work......and in that enviroment, everyone relies on everyone!
