not driving it myself i have no idea but i will tell you that mercedes vehicles in general have a tendency to surge, or to do what feels like surging, and it doesn't mean anything is wrong with them. if you're really interested in the vehicle, ask them to let you take it to a mechanic for a check up.

A Mercedes of this year and mileage with the problem you explained can only be a few things. These cars are bullet-proof! I would suggest doing a tune-up and change some filters (air & fuel). Also run some injector cleaner in the tank. A high quality cleaner like the stuff from BG will do some good! Search the web for BG 44K and you'll know what I mean. Good stuff and kind of expensive, but worth every penny.
Also, the mass air flow sensor is known to go out after so many years. Easy fix and not that expensive.
Try finding the part at http://www.autohausaz.com
I've used them many times and saved a bunch of $$$ by doing these simple repairs myself.
Oh, and the heavy pedal is just a lubrication issue. Have a friend sit in the car (with the engine OFF!) and press down on the pedal repeatedly. You'll need to be standing on the drivers side at the ready with some silicone spray lube. Watch the parts that are moving and spay the lube at each point. The pedal should feel much lighter after a few applications.
Good luck if you purchase the car. They are the best Mercedes has to offer and will treat you well for many years to come.

Vacuum leak.. Extra air enters and as it's burned off the engine speeds up.

Very common on benzes, get it fixed quickly as it means that unmetered air is entering your engine and you're running lean and hot at the same time which is bad for any engine.

Look around for damaged hoses, or a hissing noise

remember theres a fuel strainer in the tank, simple to clean.
My 617 diesel does that when it wants to run, these cars are made for high speed driving all day long.
